The Royal Danish Embassy consists of a department for consular services (visas, passports, driving licences, assistance to Danes etc.) and a department under the Trade Council of Denmark focusing primarily on export promotion and assistance to Danish companies and organizations working in Singapore.

 A Danish Embassy can assist with:

  • Issuance of an emergency passport;
  • Contact an attorney in case of arrest;
  • Contact relatives in Denmark;
  • Contact insurance companies in relation to accidents, illness or death;
  • Information on risk areas;
  • Transferring money to purchase a return ticket (requires bank guarantee).

From 1 January 2012 Danish passports will contain digital photographs, fingerprints and signature of the holder. This creates greater security that the passport cannot be misused.

Passport applications must be submitted in person at the Royal Danish Embassy, as applicant needs to provide biometric data:

  • All Danes above the age of 5 have to provide a digital signature when they apply
  • All Danes above the age of 12 will be fingerprinted.
  • All applicants - regardless of age - will have their photo taken at the embassy (it is recommended to bring a photo for infants and very young children).

Passports to Danish citizens residing abroad are produced in Denmark and the processing time is between 2-4 weeks. Passport applications should therefore be submitted well before a scheduled journey.

If a passport has been lost or stolen, Danish citizen must file a police report and attach a copy to the new passport application.

The Royal Danish Embassy in Singapore handles applications for Schengen visa to Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland. A Schengen visa is issued for the purpose of a short stay (less than 90 days) in Denmark and other countries in the Schengen Region. The Schengen Visa is strictly a visitor's visa and does NOT give the holder the right to reside or work in Denmark or other Schengen countries.

Citizens of Singapore are exempt from visa requirement, therefore they do not need a visa in order to enter Denmark.

Citizens of countries that require visas to enter Denmark must normally meet the following basic conditions in order to be granted a visa:

  • Applicants' passport or other form of valid travel document must be valid for 3 months past the visa expiration date. Moreover, the passport or travel document must have been issued within the past 10 years.
  • Applicants must have the necessary means to pay for their stay and return trip. What will be considered as necessary funds will be determined by the Danish diplomatic mission and depends on the length of applicants' stay, and whether they will stay at a hotel or with friends or family. As a general rule, applicants must have at their disposal approx. DKK 350 per day. A smaller amount may be accepted if applicants are staying in a private home and their host will cover all costs. If applicants are staying at a hotel, the amount must be greater, approx. DKK 500 per day.
  • Applicants must hold a travel insurance policy to cover possible expenses in connection with a return for health reasons or death, indispensable medical treatment or acute hospitalisation during their stay. The insurance policy must cover all Schengen countries, and the minimum policy coverage is €30,000. The insurance policy must be valid for the same period as the visa. The validity of the visa may be shortened if the insurance policy does not cover the entire period.
  • Applicants may not be registered as undesirable in the Schengen Information System (SIS).
  • Applicants may not have been deported from Denmark and given an entry ban.
  • Applicants may not be listed on UN or EU sanctions lists.

The Embassy is closed on public holidays.
