Consular services provided by the Embassy:

• Issues passports;
• Registers French citizens abroad;
• Allows French citizens abroad to participate in electoral events;
• Deals with military service matters;
• Deals with nationality matters;
• Provides notarial, legalization and certification services;
• Deals with civil status matters;

In case of lost or stolen travel documents, French citizens in Portugal must make a list of lost/stolen items and report it to the local police authorities. French mission may issue a temporary travel document to return to France.

France and Portugal are member states of the European Union, therefore citizens of both countries can freely move around these countries and do not require visas. Other citizens may apply for a visa to France at the French Consulate-General in Madrid, if they hold a valid travel document, are resident in Portugal and France is their main travel destination.

The Embassy is closed on public holidays.
