The Consular Section provides administrative services and extends consular protection to the French citizens in Singapore, readily assists French persons in difficulty and issues visas to foreign citizens to Schengen countries.
The Consular Section is the point of contact between France and French citizens living abroad. It allows French expatriates to maintain their links with their home country by exercising their rights and duties as citizen through administrative services. These services include the updating of public records, the issuing of passports and proofs of identity, the drawing up of notarised deeds, the putting in order of papers for national service, the preparation of powers of attorney for voting, the organisation of elections, and adoption procedures, et cetera.
It assists French people either residing in or passing through Singapore; by drawing up a security plan in the event of a crisis, helping French tourists in difficulty, aiding French citizens in prison, and providing scholarship grants and social aid. The department is also a source of general information for the French community residing in Singapore by keeping in close contact with associations and institutions in the country. It is furthermore responsible for issuing visas to foreigners visiting France.
From 26 June 2014, the consular jurisdiction in Singapore has been extended to include the territory of Negara Brunei Darussalam. The consular section of the Embassy of France in Singapore is from now on able to handle all administrative processes concerning French residents or travelers to Brunei.
Consular emergencies will be addressed without prior appointment:
- situations involving physical safety of French nationals (accidents, deaths, arrests...).
- situations in which French non residents find themselves deprived of identity or travel documents in Singapore.
If a visa applicant resides in Singapore and his/her main destination is France, Austria or Greece, he/she has to submit his/her visa application to the Embassy of France in Singapore.
Documents required for a visa:
- 1 Short stay Schengen visa form.
- 1 identity photography. The photo must be recent, clearly showing the face, the forehead hairline and ears on a white background.
- Original and 1 photocopy for a valid passport (only identity pages). The passport should be issued less than 10 years ago and valid for at least 3 months after the departure from Schengen states. It should contain at least 2 blank visa pages.
- Original and 1 photocopy of employment pass/S pass/Dependant pass/Student pass/Work permit/PR card with re-entry permit.
- Original and 1 photocopy of flight reservation/booking with confirmed dates.
- Original and 1 photocopy of proof of accommodation.
- Original and 1 photocopy of financial guarantee.
- Original and 1 photocopy of travel insurance. The insurance should cover the following: medical expenses, hospitalization and repatriation costs incurred for each at least 30.000 euros during applicant's stay in Europe.
- 1 photocopy of precious Schengen visas.
- Additional documents may be required.
Ordinary passport holders of Singapore are exempt from visa requirements to enter France's territory in Europe, if they are gainfully employed and can produce a work permit.
The Embassy is closed on public holidays.
