For German residents in New Zealand, the Embassy in Wellington is the first point of contact with their home country with regard to many consular matters. The Embassy provides information in German concerning:

From 1 November 2012 all applications for residence permits (long term visas including Working Holiday Visas) have to be submitted in person at the German Embassy Wellington. Applications for visitor visas (Schengen Visas) can still be submitted by post.

New Zealand citizens can also apply for their necessary residence permit within 90 days of arrival in Germany at the local immigration office.

Visa is not required for New Zealand passport holders staying for up to 90 days in the German Republic. They may travel to Germany with a New Zealand passport only, which must be valid at least 3 months after the intended final departure from Germany.
