The Embassy provides consular services related to:

  • Power of attorney;
  • Transportation of bodily remains of Greek citizens who died abroad;
  • Delivery of legal documents;
  • Issuance of birth, death, marriage certificates;
  • Maritime affairs;
  • Verification of the authenticity of foreign documents;
  • Issuance of passports;
  • Allowing Greek citizens abroad to handle their tax affairs;
  • Inheritance affairs;
  • National service affairs;
  • Issuance of certification of change of residency;
  • Customs affairs;
  • Issuance of visas;

In case of lost or stolen passport, Greek citizen must report the loss immediately to the nearest police or consular authority (the same holds true if the lost passport is found). The above authority carries out an investigation (which may last up to 3 months) into the circumstances under which the passport was lost or stolen. During the investigation, a new passport is not issued to the applicant unless it is deemed necessary that the applicant travel abroad to receive medical treatment.

In cases of emergency, provisional travelling documents can be issued by Greek Consular Missions abroad for the repatriation of Greek citizens.

Visas are not required for citizens of Member-States of the Schengen Agreement., including the Netherlands, for a short stay period of up to 3 months. Citizens of the majority of the countries that are not Member-States of the Schengen Agreement require a visa to enter Greece and the E.U. Visitors from these countries can obtain further information from the Hellenic Embassies or Consulates in their countries, or even from their travel agencies.
