The Administrative and Consular Section deals with all matters related to passports, visa and judicial affairs and also all administrative matters concerning the Embassy. Services include:

  • Visas;

  • Residence and Work permits;
  • Family and legal matters;
  • Elections;
  • Legalization of documents;

If the applicant’s previous valid passport was stolen: official record from the Police on his/her report on the stolen document is required. The Embassy can issue a Temporary Passport with maximum of 6 months validity. With this passport one can only travel to Hungary, return or onward journey is not possible.

Applications shall be decided on within 15 calendar days of the date of the lodging of an application. That period may be extended up to a maximum of 30 calendar days in individual cases, notably when further scrutiny of the application is needed or in cases of representation where the authorities of the represented Member State are consulted.

Hungary tourist visa is not required for citizens of Singapore for a stay up to 90 days. Citizens of other countries should check with nearest Hungarian diplomatic mission to see if they need a visa to enter Hungary.

General requirements when applying for a short stay visa (C):

  • passport containing at least two blank pages, issued within 10 years before the submission of the visa application and its validity shall extend at least three months after the intended date of departure from the Schengen area,
  • a residence permit/long term visa valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area,
  • a wholly and legibly completed and signed visa application form ,
  • a passport-size colour photo (not older than 6 months),
  • travel medical insurance valid throughout the territory of the Schengen area and covering the entire period of the applicant’s intended stay or transit. The minimum coverage shall be €30,000 (such travel medical insurances are available at all post offices),
  • documents indicating the purpose of the journey,
  • documents in relation to accommodation or proof of sufficient means to cover the costs of accommodation,
  • proof of sufficient means of subsistence (e.g. recent bank account statements, payslips etc),
  • confirmed outward and onward ticket reservation.

Regulations on a stay exceeding 90 days fall within the competence of national authorities, therefore there is no uniform routine among the Schengen Member States. Foreign nationals requesting entry to Hungary with a purpose of a long stay may submit a residence permit application. In case of successful application, the applicant will get a visa authorizing him/her to a single entry for receiving a residence permit and to stay for maximum 30 days in Hungary. The decision on the residence permit falls within the scope of the regional directorates of the Office for Immigration and Nationality (OIN).

It should be noted that:

  • The visa fee shall be paid when the application is submitted.
  • If the application for a visa is refused, the fee will not be reimbursed.
  • The fee shall be paid in euros.
  • Payment can be made in cash only.
