In accordance with guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Government of India has introduced a new system of Machine Readable Passports. Under the new system all Indian passports will be issued at a central issuing office in New Delhi. The Embassy of India in Prague would accept the applications forms for issuing passports. The form should be filed and submitted personally to the Consular Section of the Embassy along with prescribed fee, 4 photographs of 5 x 5 cm with white background, original passport, photocopy of passport, photocopy of residence visa and signature of the applicant on 4 places A4 size paper. The Embassy will electronically transfer the data to the Central Passport Issuing Office. The Machine readable Passport will be couriered to the Embassy for collection by the applicant.

The whole process may take 15-20 days; all applicants who need to have their passports renewed may therefore apply well in advance, to avoid visa problems due to delays in passport renewals.

An Emergency Certificate (one-way travel document) which authorizes an Indian citizen to enter India is issued to individuals who have lost their passports or their passports have been stolen or damaged and to whom new passports cannot be issued without approval from India. This document is issued primarily with the objective of ensuring the applicant’s return to India in an emergency.

Applications for Indian visa are accepted at the Embassy from 09.30 hours to 12.00 hours. Collection of visas/passports is from 16.00 hours to 17.00 hours - Monday to Friday, except holidays. All applicants for Indian visa are required to fill in the online visa application form. Hand-written applications are no longer accepted by the Embassy. Visa applications are not accepted by post.

Processing of visa applications will take a minimum of one week’s time. In some cases this period could be longer. Applicants may check the status of their application online and approach the Consular Section of the Mission from Monday to Friday between 16.00 and 17.00 to pick up their visas.

The Embassy makes every effort to issue tourist and business visas after 4 working days (excluding the day of submission and collection) after application, provided all documents are complete. However, there would be delays depending on individual process requirements. For applicants who do not have Czech passport, an additional five to seven days processing time is required. There is also additional processing fee.

IMPORTANT: Visas are valid from the date of issue and not from the date of entry into India. Applicants may take this into account while specifying the duration of visa required.

NOTE: All fees should be paid in cash at the time of application. We do not accept cheques or credit cards. Fees once received will not be refunded, even if visa application is withdrawn by the applicant or visa is not issued.

The Embassy is closed during Czech and Indian national holidays.
