The Indian Embassy in Germany provides the following services:

NOTE: Visa application forms shall only be accepted online with effect from June 20, 2011. This applies both for counter as well as postal cases.

Applicants holding passports, other than German, must have a valid stay permit for at least one year in Germany for grant of all types of visas except Business and Employment. In case of Business visa, stay permit of at least two years in Germany is necessary. In all other cases, clearance is to be obtained from Indian Missions in their respective countries. Referral fee would be charged in addition to visa fee. Visa processing fee once deposited shall not be refunded. Fee should be deposited only after ascertaining the correct type and period of visa applicable to the purpose of travel.

Emergency Visa is issued in cases of genuine emergency like death or serious illness of immediate family member (blood relation with proof of relationship) subject to production of supporting documentary evidence from India like death certificate/Hospital certificate duly signed and stamped

Every registered OCI will be issued a registration certificate which is printed like an Indian passport in different colour and an OCI visa sticker will be pasted in the person's foreign passport. These two documents will have the photograph of the individual and all necessary security features.

Important Point
Applicant, who has been a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh, shall not be eligible for OCI.

Minor PIO children whose both parents are either Indian nationals or one parent is an Indian national and the other is ineligible for OCI is also not eligible for registration as OCI.

Restrictions:

  • The OCI is not entitled to vote,
  • Be a member of Legislative Assembly or Legislative Council or Parliament.
  • He/she cannot hold constitutional posts such as President, Vice President, Judge of Supreme Court or High Court etc.
  • and cannot hold employment in the Government.
  • PIO/OCI Card does not entitle the cardholder to undertake any missionary work, mountaineering and research work, without prior permission of the Government of India in accordance with the instructions issued from time to time.

NOTE:  Indian citizens residing in India and abroad and holding handwritten passports as well as 20-year passports with validity beyond the 24th November 2015, should, therefore, apply for re-issue of passports and obtain MRP passports well before the deadline in order to avoid any inconvenience in obtaining foreign visa or immigration problem.

Transit passengers whose passport is lost/damaged will be issued only Machine Readable Passport. Issuance of Machine Readable Passport may take minimum of 15 working days. Under no circumstances hand written passports will be issued. Transit passengers whose passport is lost/damaged and returning to India can be issued an Emergency Certificate (handwritten), if they desire so.

All Passports will be issued only after verifying credentials of the applicants.

New passport in lieu of lost or damaged passport will be issued for full validity of 10 years.

Passport can be re-issued one year before expiry of current passport.

An Emergency Certificate (one-way travel document) which authorizes an Indian citizen to enter India is issued to individuals who have lost their passports or their passports have been stolen or damaged and to whom new passports cannot be issued without approval from India. This document is issued primarily with the objective of ensuring the applicant’s return to India in an emergency.
