The functions of the political section is to maintain Indonesian bilateral relations with Austria and Slovenia as well as represent Indonesia in multilateral forums, particularly those in relation to the IAEA, PrepCom CTBTO, UNODC and UNOOSA. In maintaining bilateral relations, it establishes professional relations and engages in cooperation activities with Austrian and Slovenian counterparts in the government, parliament, political parties, academics, non-governmental organizations, and other partners, to enhance cooperation for mutual benefit. It also monitors, reports and offers advices on the political development in the two countries as the basis for decision making in Jakarta.

One of the functions of the Press and Cultural Section of the Indonesian Embassy in Vienna is to familiarize Austria and Slovenia and its citizens with the richness of Indonesian culture. The relations between both Austria and Slovenia and Indonesia are reinforced through cooperative cultural exchange projects. Numerous performances and cultural presentations in cooperation with Austrian schools, universities, economic chambers and other organizations including clubs and travel agencies raise both the interests in and the understanding for Indonesian culture and the people of Indonesia.

The Indonesian Embassy's Consular Section serves Indonesian citizens and foreigners residing permanently in Indonesia with matters involving Indonesian authorities, such as passports, notary services and certain specific legal transactions, family law, citizenship and military service. The Consular Section assists Indonesian citizens in distress, gives information on the services provided by Indonesian authorities and the legal protection available to private citizens, and advises on general procedures related to legal or administrative matters in Indonesia and South Africa. Foreign citizens can consult the Embassy's Consular Section on matters related to visas and entry permits.

Visas of the Republic of Indonesia:

  • A Visa of the Republic of Indonesia may be issued in the form of an official stamp, a sheet of paper inserted into or attached to a passport, an ordinary card, or an electronic card. The type of visa issued shall be based on the visa application.
  • A Diplomatic Visa or a Service Visa shall only be issued to the bearer of a Diplomatic Passport or a Service Passport. Applications for Diplomatic or Service Visas should be accompanied by diplomatic letters or official letters.
  • Visa applications may be done by proxy, except for Diplomatic or Service Visa applications.
  • A visa application should be submitted to an Embassy or Consular Office of the Republic of Indonesia or other official designated by Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
  • Visas shall be used within 90 (ninety) days, calculated from the date of issuance.
  • Any foreign national who fails to use a visa within this designated period of time must submit a re-application for a new visa.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.
