They also ensure emergency assistance; help in locating family members, inheritance procedures initiated abroad and for the repatriation of mortal remains. The consular services include:

In case of emergency, please make contact with the police at their emergency phone number: 112. If you are the victim of a crime while in Estonia, please contact the nearest police station as soon as possible. The police will assist you in filling in a report on the incident. You will be asked to sign the draft report and will normally be given a copy of it to keep. The report may be necessary for follow-up investigation or for insurance claims, etc.

If your passport is lost or stolen, you should firstly report the loss or theft to the nearest police station as soon as possible after the event. The police will issue you with a document confirming that you have made the report. You will be required to present this document at the Embassy when applying for a replacement travel document.

When applying for a passport you should allow 4 weeks for the processing through the Embassy of Ireland Estonia. This includes the transmission of your application to the Dublin Passport Office where the passport is printed and the return of the passport to the Mission concerned by the diplomatic bag service.

What documents should be enclosed

  • Complete all sections of the application form correctly and legibly. Don't forget to enter your signature in the signaturebox on the left hand side of this section.
  • Enclose two recently taken passport photographs.
  • Have the witness section of the application form and one photograph signed by a Garda Síochána, for applications made in Ireland, or by a member of one of the categories listed on the form for applications made abroad.
  • Enclose Proof of Citizenship (see below), if this is your first passport application, or your most recently issued passport in the case of renewal applications. Photocopies are not acceptable.
  • Enclose the appropriate fee.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade can AuthenticateApostille documents executed in Ireland that are to be used in other countries. Irish Diplomatic and Consular Missions abroad can legalise documents executed abroad for use in Ireland. Authenticating a document simply means confirming that a signature, seal or stamp appearing on the document is genuine. Legalising a document means authenticating it for the purpose of making it acceptable to an Irish court. Authentication and Legalisation do not mean that the content of a document is accurate or that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade approves of the content.
