Irish the Embassy ensures all co-nationals protection against the violation of their fundamental rights and the limitation or privation of their personal freedom. They also ensure emergency assistance; help in locating family members, inheritance procedures initiated abroad and for the repatriation of mortal remains. The consular services include:

In case of an emergency affecting Irish citizens, the Embassy may be contacted on +358 9 682 4240. In the evenings and at weekends, if you need assistance prior to 9.00 on the next working day, call this number to obtain the mobile phone number of the Duty. Any messages left on the fixed phone will be attended to early the next working day. If you leave a message, remember to state your name, the nature of the problem, where you are now, and the details of how you can be contacted.
Please note all fees payable to the Embassy of Ireland in Helsinki must be paid by bank transfer, with the exception of passport fees where there is also an option to pay by credit card. Applicant name and reference number must be included in the message box when making a transfer.
If your passport is lost or stolen, you should firstly report the loss or theft to the nearest police station as soon as possible after the event. The police will issue you with a report. You will be required to present this when applying for a replacement travel document at the Embassy. Secondly, contact the Embassy. It is advisable to have alternative photo ID as well as a photocopy of your passport with you at all times while travelling in Finland. Passport-sized photos can be obtained at any photo shop. Please note that in cases where a temporary or new full passport is required (residents of Finland), strict size guidelines for the photos apply and must be adhered to for the application to be accepted. Guidelines can be obtained, with the passport application form, from the Embassy.
