The Irish General Consulate in Auckland provides a wide range of consular services including various visas, pension issues, civil registration, legalization of documents, and deals with many other standard issues.
Any citizen of Ireland may apply for an Irish passport at this mission.
It takes approximately 4-6 weeks to obtain a passport, if all documentation is correct. Applications are checked here and processed, but the passports are produced in Ireland and returned to the Embassy for forwarding to the applicant by registered mail.
In order to obtain a replacement for a lost passport, the applicant must complete a passport application form. Section 6 must be completed in respect of the loss of one’s current passport and this requires the loss to be reported to the nearest police station. The applicant must also submit original citizenship documents with the application PLUS 3 current, original forms of ID.
The Embassy can issue emergency passports at the Consulate. These are not the same as full passports as they have fewer pages and shorter validity. They are issued only in the case of genuine emergency travel and on sight of your travel arrangements. These emergency passports are intended primarily for travel to Ireland.
New Zealand passport holders do not require Entry Visas to visit Ireland on holiday. They may holiday in Ireland for up to three months and employment is prohibited. Evidence of onwards travel from Ireland within a three-month period is required.
Applicants applying for an Irish Working Holiday Authorisation must be resident in New Zealand during the application process, must have and provide evidence of access to a minimum of NZ$3,000 of available funds, must have an onward journey ticket, or extra funds in excess of NZ$200 with which to purchase an onwards travel ticket and hold a New Zealand passport which must be valid for a minimum of 15 months from the date of planned entry to Ireland.
