Consular services provided by the Embassy:
- Authentication of documents;
- Dealing with citizenship matters;
- Marriage abroad matters;
- Passport services;
- Issuance of visas;
- Assistance in cases of emergency.
If Irish passport is lost or stolen, Irish citizen should firstly report the loss or theft to the nearest police station/gendarmerie as soon as possible after the event. The police/gendarmes will issue a "Certidão de Extravio/Certidão de Furto" confirming that Irish citizen has made the report. He/she will be required to present this when applying for a replacement travel document.
Secondly, Irish citizen should contact the Embassy. A police report is accepted by some airlines in lieu of a passport, but always check with your airline before going to the airport. If the airline will not accept the police statement, the Embassy can issue an Emergency Travel Certificate. Applicant will need to present the police report and two passport photographs to apply for an Emergency Travel Certificate.
Visa applications should be made to the Irish Embassy or Consulate in or accredited to the country in which the applicant normally resides. The Embassy of Ireland in Lisbon accepts applications from individuals legally resident in Portugal. As from 13 October 2008 the on-line facility will be available to individuals resident in Portugal.
Citizens of Portugal do not require a visa to travel to Ireland.
Fees are charged for certain consular services such as issuing passports and visas, foreign birth registrations, authentication of documents and administering oaths. These fees are fixed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade by way of Statutory Instrument issued under Section 3 of the Diplomatic and Consular Officers (Provision of Services) Act, 1993.
The Embassy is closed on public holidays.
