The Embassy provides consular services:

  • Offers information and advice on enrolment in Italian schools and universities, and issues the necessary statements of equal value for qualifications earned in schools and universities within consular jurisdictions and recognition in Italy of university study and the assignment of scholarships;
  • Handles the issuance of visas allowing applicants entrance into Italy or the EU

In case of lost or stolen passport, Italian citizens living abroad must go in person to the Passport Office of the Consular Jurisdiction with the claim of theft or loss of passport filed at the local police authority valid photo ID permit to be in the country or justification of residence in the jurisdiction.

An Italian citizen (non-resident abroad) who has no time to apply for NULLA OSTA (clearance) for the issuance of a new passport from the Police Commissary or Consulate that issued the lost document, the Consulate General issues a document called a "Travel Document", which is valid only for re-entry in Italy. In order to obtain this it is necessary to go in person to the Consulate with the claim of theft or loss of passport filed at the local police authority two photos (identical, full-face and in colour) original airline ticket with confirmed departure date.

All foreigners intending to enter Italy must provide the documentation required to justify the reasons and duration of their stay as well as, in some prescribed cases, the availability of adequate economic means and lodging. Depending on citizenship, country of long-term residence, and the duration and reasons for the stay, citizens of different countries may need visas to enter Italy.

Visas issued by Italian foreign missions are valid for access, transit orbrief sojourn (up to 90 days) both in Italy and in other countries that apply the Schengen Convention. A visa takes anywhere from 2 days to 15 days to process in the Italy Embassy/Consulate.
