Passport replacement requirements:

  • Two copies of fully and correctly completed prescribed application form
  • Photocopies of current passport ( the last 3 pages)
  • Four (4) passport- sized photographs (Size 2"X1.5")
  • Two (2) copies of your Immigration Status in South Africa (i.e. Permanent Residence, Work Permit, Student Authorization etc).
  • Additional documentary proof of Kenya citizenship may be required if necessary.

Replacement of a lost passport:

  • Report to the nearest SAPS regarding the circumstances of the loss and obtain a police abstract.
  • Report to the nearest Kenya Mission (High Commission or Embassy) e.g. pretoria@mfa.go.ke or info@kenya.org.za.
  • Proceed to a Commissioner of Oaths, and obtain a sworn affidavit.
  • Download passport application Form 21A for a minor and fill comprehensively
  • Four (4) passport size photos
  • Photocopies of your lost passport
  • Obtain a Postal Order, Bank guaranteed cheque payable to "KENYA HIGH COMMISSION " or cash R1,300
  • Courier two sets of 1,2 & 4 above or bring them to the Embassy to process a replacement.

 Waiting period: 4-6 weeks

The fees can be paid by:

  • Cash
  • Bank Guaranteed Cheques (to the Kenya High Commission) OR
  • Postal Order (to the Kenya High Commission). Postal orders can be obtained from any Post Office

Before embarking on your trip to Kenya, please note:

  • Although there are no strict dress codes, you should note that the coastal areas are predominantly Muslim in tradition. Dress conservatively away from the tourist resorts and hotels.
  • Smoking in all public places (except in designated areas) is prohibited throughout Kenya.
  • The use and trafficking of illegal Class A drugs in Kenya carries heavy fines and jail sentences. The penalty for possession is ten (10) years imprisonment.
  • Permission to carry any kind of firearm must be obtained from the local authorities prior to entry.
  • ATMs are widely available in Nairobi and the main towns. Credit cards and travellers' cheques are widely accepted.
  • Local time is three (3) hours ahead of (GMT)
  • Malaria is prevalent in Coastal & low lying areas (below 1800m above sea level). Please seek medical advice prior to travel.
  • Upon your return from Kenya, most countries will require a Yellow Fever Health Certificate. Seek more details from your medical practitioner prior to your travel.
  • There are several FOREX Bureaus in Nairobi as well as major banking institutions. It is advisable to convert your foreign currencies to local currency (Kenya Shilling) for ease of transactions.
  • South African Passport Holders do not require visa into Kenya for period less than one month (30 days).

Referral visas are processed from Nairobi and it takes approximately 6 weeks.
