The Lithuanian Embassy in Vienna is the formal communication link between the Lithuanian and the Austrian governments. The Ambassador heads the Embassy and is the official representative to Austria of the Lithuanian Government. The Embassy fulfills the role of a Lithuanian public authority when it comes to consular and migration-related matters, which include issuance of passports and different kinds of certificates, visas for students, residence and work permits as well as assistance to Lithuanians in emergency situations.

Consular reception is designated for the consular services at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Latvia, which includes services such as the issuance of repatriation certificates, processing documents for the replacement and issuance of passports, performing notarial acts, processing documents for the registration of marriages, births, deaths or other acts of civil status in the Republic of Lithuania, issuing consular certificates and etc.

The Embassy can assist with the following:

  • Issue repatriation certificates;
  • Issue consular certificates for the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who lost their driving license abroad or vehicles register certificates for the purpose of returning to Lithuania;
  • Accept applications for the citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania;
  • Process applications for the issuance/replacement of passports of the Republic of Lithuania;
  • Process declarations of the place of residence from the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who are living abroad for more than 6 months;
  • Accept requests to register acts of civil status such as marriage, birth, divorce etc. of citizens of the Republic of Lithuania;
  • Accept requests for the issuance of the certificates on conviction (non – conviction);
  • Issue consular certificates;
  • Perform notarial acts;
  • Perform consular legalisation of the documents;
  • Provide information about procedures how relatives in Lithuania can transfer money to the individual residing abroad;
  • If necessary, visit citizens of the Republic of Lithuania in prisons;
  • Request that the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who are arrested or convicted abroad are treated according to local and international law and have the same treatment as local citizens; Issue Schengen visas;
  • Accept applications of foreign nationals for the temporary permission to live in Lithuania;

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.
