The Embassy of Malta in Moscow provides the following services:

New Maltese passports are biometric and issued by the Passport Office in Malta. Hence applicants must submit their application in person at the Consulate where their biometric data (photograph, fingerprints and signature) is captured electronically and subsequently transmitted to the Passport Office in Malta for processing.

Russian Federation nationals are subject to the visa requirement, when travelling to Malta.

In addition to the visa application form, a valid travel document and two (2) passport-size photographs, applicants need to produce the following documentation:

  • a valid return ticket or
  • a certificate of a reserved and prepaid journey
  • cash in convertible currency or
  • traveller's cheques or
  • cheque books for a foreign currency account or
  • credit cards
  • or any other means that guarantees funds in hard currency.
  • hotel reservation or reservation for a similar establishment or
  • where a third-country national states that he/she shall stay at a person's home or in an institution, the applicant must present a written declaration by the host which vouches for the host’s commitment to accommodate. The diplomatic mission and consular posts will verify such declarations, where such checks are necessary.
  • a valid individual or group Travel Medical Insurance to cover any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention and/or emergency hospital treatment. The insurance must be valid throughout the Schengen Member States and cover the entire period of the person’s stay. The minimum coverage is of € 30,000.

All persons wishing to apply for visas to visit Malta have to make an appointment. All applications have to be made in person. It is important that flights are not booked before an appointment is made. Please apply at least 15 days before planned departure and at most 3 months (12 weeks) before planned departure. Applications are in most cases reviewed within 7-15 days. In individual cases, the review period can be extended up to 30 days and in exceptional cases up to 60 days.

An identification document may be requested by security at the main entrance of the compound.

The Embassy is closed on public holidays.
