The New Zealand High Commission is charged with carrying out the New Zealand Government's business with Canada. The High Commissioner is also accredited to Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

The primary focus of the High Commission's work is managing New Zealand's political, economic, trade, security and other relations in Canada.

New Zealand has close bilateral ties with Canada, sharing a Commonwealth heritage and similar traditions and parliamentary and legal systems. The countries have mutually supportive relationships in many international fora based on shared values and similar outlooks.

The High Commission works to build on these linkages to see greater trade and economic engagement and connectivity between New Zealand and Canada; nurture and maintain the defence and security relationships; and facilitate foreign policy cooperation bilaterally as well as in various regional and multilateral fora. The High Commission also delivers consular and visa services.

If a New Zealand citizen has his/her passport lost, stolen or damaged, and need to travel urgently, an Embassy or High Commission may be able to issue an Emergency Travel Document

Note that Canada is a Visa-free country for visits as a tourist for up to 3 months.

The receiving office for New Zealand visa applications has changed. Applications are no longer lodged with the New Zealand High Commission in Ottawa, and instead those from Canada and all countries in the Americas, including the Caribbean, need to be sent to the New Zealand Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Washington D.C., USA Immigration New Zealand is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for its customers and is working closely with the New Zealand High Commission in implementing this change. There is a $USD37.00 handling fee per application, in addition to the relevant visa fee.
