Consular staff at Embassies can:
- provide advice re lost or stolen passports, if you need to travel urgently;
- help you contact family or friends to request emergency funds;
- provide a list of English-speaking lawyers, and contact family and friends on your behalf, if you are detained or arrested;
- provide advice on local medical facilities, help contact your family and or insurance provider if you are ill or injured;
- help with arrangements following a death overseas;
- in certain circumstances, provide notarial services such as witnessing affidavits, statutory declarations and other documents for use under New Zealand law;
- account for New Zealanders who may have been affected by a major overseas crisis, such as civil unrest and natural disasters.
In certain circumstances, staff at the Embassy is able to witness affidavits, affirmations, statutory declarations and other documents for use under New Zealand law. The witnessing must take place at the New Zealand Embassy.
Loss or theft of New Zealand passport must be reported to local police. A copy of a police report or a reference number will be needed when applying for a new passport (depending on which country applicant is in, police reference numbers may be called different things - police report event numbers, crime reference numbers, etc.).
Citizens of China need visas to visit New Zealand. Tourist visa requirements:
- Application form.
- Supplementary form for Chinese visitors, students and workers.
- Supplementary form for Hong Kong and Macau visitors, workers and students.
- Current passports (original) for every person included in the application.
- A copy of the identity pages of the passports of every person included in the application.
- Application fee.
- Two recent passport-sized color photographs (must be less than 6 months old) of each person included in the application (any background).
- Copies of Chinese identity cards of every person included in the application.
- Copy of Hong Kong/Macau identity card (HK and Macau residents only).
- Evidence of applicant’s ability to fund his/her stay in New Zealand, and his/her outward travel from New Zealand.
- Evidence of applicant’s relationship to partner or dependent child included in the application, such as Hukou, marriage certificate, child’s birth certificate showing parents’ names.
- If dependent child is included in application but the child’s other parent is not travelling together, a letter of consent for the child to travel, from the non-travelling parent.
- Household registration book (Hukou).
- If employed, a letter from employer.
- If owning a company, additional documentation.
- If retired, a copy of applicant’s retirement certificate.
The Embassy is closed on public holidays.
