The New Zealand Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, works to ensure the historical bonds of friendship between New Zealand and Republic of Korea continue to grow and strengthen. The Embassy promotes all areas of the relationship including political, trade, defence, education, social, cultural and people ties. The Embassy helps New Zealanders who require consular assistance. Part of Embassy's work includes relations with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea).
Embassy services:
- General advice and assistance in cases of hospitalisation, repatriation, evacuation, arrest and detention for New Zealanders who get into difficulty while travelling in Korea.
- Assistance with arrangements for a local funeral, or for remains to be returned to New Zealand in cases where New Zealand citizens die abroad and there are no relatives or friends on hand to take responsibility.
- Assistance with affidavits, affirmations, statutory declarations, verification (authentication) of documents, service of legal documents, and wills.
- Issuing of Emergency Travel Document (ETD)
- Assistance with citizenship applications, registration of births, deaths and marriages.
- Provision of overseas voting facilities for New Zealand citizens in Korea during New Zealand parliamentary and local authority elections, or referendums.
- Assistance in arranging for candidates in Korea to sit New Zealand examinations.
Loss or theft of New Zealand passport must be reported to local police. A copy of a police report or a reference number will be needed when applying for a new passport (depending on which country applicant is in, police reference numbers may be called different things - police report event numbers, crime reference numbers, etc.).
If South Korean citizen is visiting New Zealand for three months or less, this person will not need to apply for a visitor visa before arriving in New Zealand as long as the purpose of the visit is for a lawful purpose.
On arrival in New Zealand, this person will be asked to provide:
- travel tickets or evidence of onward travel arrangements, and
- evidence of funds for maintenance
