The New Zealand High Commission is an overseas post of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The focus of the High Commission's work is managing New Zealand's political, economic and trade relations with the United Kingdom and Ireland. We can also provide consular assistance to resident and visiting New Zealanders, including emergency assistance and advice in the case of arrests, hospitalisation or loss of passports. It is important to be aware however, that the High Commission is limited in what it can do and does not have funds available for those who fall into financial difficulty.
The High Commission can provide assistance and guidance to any New Zealander in serious distress - for example, if you have been involved in an accident, been hospitalised, arrested or detained.
The Embassy can assist with the following:
- give advice, with the aim of helping their citizens to help themselves
- help one contact relatives or friends to request emergency funds
- provide a list of local lawyers, and help contacting family and friends, if one is detained or arrested
- help with arrangements following a death overseas
- help during crises, such as civil unrest and natural disasters
The New Zealand High Commission in London can witness signatures on documents; take an affidavit, affirmation, or statutory declaration; and certify some official documents for use under New Zealand law. This service is available by appointment only on Tuesday and Thursday from 11.00 - 12.00. To make an appointment, please phone 020 7930 8422. Please note there is a charge for notarial services.
The Immigration New Zealand London Office receives and processes applications for Temporary Visas for those wanting to study, work or visit New Zealand from the United Kingdom, Western Europe and North Africa. London is also the receiving office for permanent migration from the United Kingdom, Europe, and all of Africa. Currently travelers from more than 50 countries do not require a Visitor's Visa for stays in New Zealand of less than three months. United Kingdom Passport holders are entitled to enter New Zealand for a holiday of up to six months without a visa.
