The Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria is the formal communication link between the South African and the Nigerian governments. The head of the High Commission is the official representative to South Africa of the Nigerian Government. The Embassy fulfills the role of a Nigerian public authority when it comes to consular and migration-related matters, which include issuance of passports and different kinds of certificates, visas for students, residence and work permits as well as assistance to Nigerian in emergency situations.

Requirements for a Tourist Visa:

  • Current passport with at least 6 months validity
  • One recent passport sized photograph
  • Flight booking or copy of air ticket
  • Letter of invitation by organization or photocopy of data page of passport and other proof of identity if invited by a Nigerian
  • Photocopy of data page of passport, photocopy of entry visa and CERPAC card if invited by a resident immigrant.
  • Proof of Hotel accommodation in Nigeria
  • Evidence of enough fund to sustain stay in Nigeria
  • Completed visa application forms with confirmation of payment.
  • Include birth certificates, marriage certificate and data pages of the parents    passports in case of minors

Payments to the revenue account (visa fees) are made by obtaining:

  • Bank guaranteed cheque ONLY
  • Payable to: Nigeria High Commission

All applicants should note that no other forms of payments are acceptable.

South African passport holders travelling to Nigeria for the first time are required to pay REFUNDABLE repatriation fees of R6000.00 which is refundable on return to South Africa.

All visa applications take at least five (5) working days to be processed with exception of the STR, Business and TWP visas. It takes minimum of 48 hours to process all types of diplomatic and official visas.
