The Polish Embassy ensures all co-nationals protection against the violation of their fundamental rights and the limitation or privation of their personal freedom. They also ensure emergency assistance; help in locating family members, inheritance procedures initiated abroad and for the repatriation of mortal remains. The consular services include:

  • Issuance of passports, temporary passports;
  • Issuance of temporary travel documents;
  • Issuance of visas;
  • Legalization, authentication, translation of documents and other notary services;
  • Certification of civil status certifications;
  • Help in contacting relatives/friends in case of emergencies;
  • Assistance in case of arrest, etc.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.

Polish citizens should be registered at the Registry of a Polish municipality. Registration permits the exercise of all the rights and duties of a citizen depending on each individual situation. The Polish citizen is obliged to inform his/her municipality, as well as the Consulate, of all registry data changes such as marital status, citizenship, address, etc.

Holders of an EEA (EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) or Swiss passport do not require a visa. Nationals from EU-countries as well as Switzerland and Liechtenstein may stay for an unlimited time. Holders of Czech Passports (European Union) do not need a visa for Poland. There are no restrictions on the remaining validity of ones passport, providing the traveler leaves Italy before its expiry date.
