The Embassy of Romania to India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Maldives, promotes and protects the interests of the Romanian State and the Romanian Citizens, in accordance with the International Law, Romanian and the legislation of the host states. The Embassy also coordinates the activity of the honorary consulates of Romania in Calcutta, Chennai, Katmandu, Dhaka and Male.

The Embassy facilitates the dialogue between the Romanian institutions and their counter-parts from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives in all fields of co-operation that represent the content of the relations between Romania and India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives. Through this approach, the Embassy identifies and makes use of the opportunities and the promotion of mutual knowledge and understanding between the political, economic and cultural representatives from Romania and the States mentioned above.

Consular services provided by the Embassy:

  • Issuance of passports;
  • Dealing with Romanian citizenship;
  • Marriage in the Embassy;
  • Issuance of visas;
  • Issuance of birth, marriage, death, criminal record, employment, name change, divorce certificates;
  • Issuance of notarial acts;
  • Assistance and consular protection of Romanian citizens.

In case Romanian citizen loses or gets his/her documents, money or other belongings stolen abroad, he/she should immediately report it to the local police and obtain a police report.

Citizens of India need visas to visit Romania.

Supporting documents needed to get a C-type tourist visa:

  • voucher or firm reservation at a tourist accommodation unit, as well as the itinerary of the trip;
  • valid travel ticket to destination, or the driving license, green card and registration documents of the means of transport in the case of vehicle drivers, except for the accompanying persons who travel together with them;
  • travel medical insurance;
  • proof of financial means in amount of EUR 50/day for the entire period, but not less than EUR 500 or the equivalent in convertible currency, except for the visa applicants who prove the full payment in advance of the tourism services packages, at least accommodation and meals.

The Embassy is closed on the Romanian legal holidays. On domestic Indian holidays, the Consular Section is open for public.
