Serbian Embassy ensures all co-nationals protection against the violation of their fundamental rights and the limitation or privation of their personal freedom. They also ensure emergency assistance; help in locating family members, inheritance procedures initiated abroad and for the repatriation of mortal remains. The consular services include:

During the stay abroad, passports may serve as a proof of identity and citizenship of the Republic of Serbia of their holders. A passport can be used exclusively by the person to whose name it has been issued. Throughout the stay in a foreign country, citizens are cautioned to take good care of their passports. Should the passport be lost or damaged one is advised to immediately contact nearest diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Serbia.
Applications for biometric passports should be submitted in person. In case applications are submitted for underage children, their presence shall also be required. The applications will be processed within a 60-days legal deadline.
In case one loses the passport on a trip abroad, he/she should immediately contact the police authorities of that country and ask to be issued a receipt to that effect. The applicant should then submit the receipt to the nearest diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Serbia which will issue a travel document for the return to Serbia, once the procedure to establish his/her identity and citizenship has been duly completed.
Visa is not required for US citizens traveling to the Republic of Serbia (up to 90 days). All Holders of US Travel Documents (Permit to Re-enter, Refugee Travel Document) require a visa for entry into the Republic of Serbia. Visas can be requested by submitting an application to the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia, Washington DC or to the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in Chicago or New York, depending on in which state one resides in. This can be done either in person or by mail.
Visa processing time is usually more than three weeks given that all types of visas must be granted by the Serbian authorities.
