Slovak Embassies and Consulates can do the following:

  • advise on how to transfer money through a bank or other money transfer company (such as Western Union),
  • transfer funds to help those in distress,
  • help victims of sudden illness, accidents and crimes so that they can get the medical care or other immediate assistance they need,
  • grant a temporary passport for repatriation (to replace a passport which is outdated or which has been lost, stolen or destroyed),
  • contact the insurance company in cases of sickness or death,
  • help those in distress or crisis situations, or those taken into custody, to get in touch with their next of kin

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.

Visa applications must be submitted in person at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Vienna. Visa Section works strictly on appointment system. All customers are asked to arrange their appointment in advance. After the applicant has submitted the online application, he/she must book an appointment electronically. The type of visa one will need depends on the length and purpose of the visit. A decision on the particular type of visa is made by the competent Embassy or Consulate general.

The visa application procedure may be lengthy in some cases. Therefore, the applicant should file their application well in advance, but not sooner than three months prior to his/her planned trip. Under the applicable law, the visa application procedure shall not take longer than 15 days, in exceptional cases the decision may take up to 60 days.
