The role of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Germany is to represent and protect the interests of the Slovak Republic in Germany, to monitor the political situation in Germany as well as the Foreign Policy of both countries, to further develop the good bilateral political, economic, cultural co-operation and to strengthen ties between the citizens of the countries. An integral part of our mission is to promote Slovak tourism and bilateral trade as well as to offer a wide array of information on Slovakia. The Consular Section of the Embassy protects the interests of citizens of Slovakia and helps them in renders them help in case of need.

The Administrative and Consular Section deals with all matters related to passports, visa and judicial affairs and also all administrative matters concerning the Embassy.

German citizens may travel to Slovakia with valid passport. Other EU-citizens may travel to Slovakia with their valid passport or national identity cards. As of 21 December 2007 Slovakia is part of Schengen Visa Area, i.e. all holders of Schengen Visas may travel to Slovakia without any other specific restrictions.

Visa applications must be submitted in person at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Berlin. Visa Section works strictly on appointment system. All customers are asked to arrange their appointment in advance. After the applicant has submitted the online application, he/she must book an appointment electronically. The type of visa one will need depends on the length and purpose of the visit. A decision on the particular type of visa is made by the competent Embassy or Consulate general.

The visa application procedure may be lengthy in some cases. Therefore, the applicant should file their application well in advance, but not sooner than three months prior to his/her planned trip. Under the applicable law, the visa application procedure shall not take longer than 15 days, in exceptional cases the decision may take up to 60 days.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.
