The mission of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Riga is the comprehensive development of co-operation between the Slovak Republic and the two Baltic countries - Latvia and Lithuania - in politics, economy, and culture. A special attention is paid to people-to-people links. As Slovakia, Latvia and Lithuania are all EU and NATO members they naturally observe a positive potential existing in their relations to be used for the benefit of the dynamically evolving societies. The Slovak Republic shapes its foreign policy toward the three Baltic countries in various directions.
On one hand side they conduct an expert dialogue with state and public authorities and on the other one they encourage cultural exchange and increase in trade and investment co-operation. Last but not least the Embassy back mutual understanding of the cultural values and natural beauty via people-to-people contacts by supporting tourism. Also, consular assistance and protection to Slovak citizens on the territory of Latvia and Lithuania is one of fundamental duties provided by the Embassy.
The Administrative and Consular Section deals with all matters related to passports, visa and judicial affairs and also all administrative matters concerning the Embassy.

Slovak Embassy can do the following:
- advise on how to transfer money through a bank or other money transfer company (such as Western Union),
- transfer funds to help those in distress,
- help victims of sudden illness, accidents and crimes so that they can get the medical care or other immediate assistance they need,
- grant a temporary passport for repatriation (to replace a passport which is outdated or which has been lost, stolen or destroyed),
- contact the insurance company in cases of sickness or death,
- help those in distress or crisis situations, or those taken into custody, to get in touch with their next of kin
NOTE: For Slovak nationals traveling to/in Latvia and Lithuania a Slovak ID card is sufficient. For nationals of Latvia and Lithuania traveling to/in Slovakia a national ID card is sufficient. For non-citizens a passport is required.
Slovakia Latvia and Lithuania joined the EU together on May 1, 2004 and later, on December 21, 2007 they all also became full-fledged members of the Schengen area. No visa is required.
