All Swiss citizens who intend to stay in the consular district for more than one year and who have announced their departure from Switzerland. One can only be registered in this Regional Consular Centre in Berlin once the applicant has announced their departure in Switzerland.

In case of loss of one’s Swiss identity documents the Embassy can help the person and issue a new travel document:

  • New passport 10 (biometric passport) or identity card. At least 2 weeks from the biometric data recording at the Embassy office are needed to get the new passport or identity card with 10 years validity. Fees apply.
  • Emergency travel document for direct return to Switzerland. Immediate issue of document at the Regional Consular Centre in Berlin (during working hours) is possible. The service is subject to a fee and in some cases a passport photograph will be required.
  • Emergency Passport in case one is short in time and need to travel. Immediate issue of Passport at the Regional Consular Centre in Berlin (during working hours) with limited validity is possible. Fees apply.

A temporary passport, which has a maximum validity of one year, may be issued in cases of emergency only. Convenience reasons as e.g. expired travel documents and foreseen travels do not qualify for a temporary passport. Each case will be treated individually. The temporary passport must be returned to the issuing authority for cancellation after the travel is completed.
