The Swiss Embassy in Wellington offers a wide selection of standard consular services including:

All Swiss citizens who intend to stay in the consular district for more than one year and who have announced their departure from Switzerland. One can only be registered in the Embassy of Switzerland in Wellington once he/she has announced their departure in Switzerland.

The following changes must always be reported to the Embassy of Switzerland in Wellington without delay (online form is located on the right side of this page):

  • Departure from the consular district
  • Civil records changes (marriage, birth, divorce, death, change of name)

To get a new passport, all Swiss citizens living in New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu must apply to the Swiss Embassy in Wellington.

Since Switzerland only issues biometric passports, the biometrics as a photo, fingerprints and a signature need to be recorded, this is why the applicant must come in person to the Embassy.

A temporary passport, which has a maximum validity of one year, may be issued in cases of emergency only. It must be returned to the issuing authority for cancellation after the travel is completed. The passport fee is currently NZD 140.00 per person for adults or children.

If a Swiss identity document is lost or stolen abroad, the nearest Swiss diplomatic or consular representation must be informed as quickly as possible and a police report should be obtained. Swiss identity documents which have been lost or stolen are entered in an official list of missing documents and should therefore not be used if they are recovered but returned to the Swiss authorities for cancellation and removal from this list.
