The UK Embassy in Ottawa is principal UK diplomatic post in Canada. Along with consulates general in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary, they are responsible for all aspects of the bilateral relationship with Canada.

The British Embassy works closely with the Canadian government and partners across the country to develop and maintain a wide range of substantive partnerships of real value to both countries. These partnerships cover business, defence, science and innovation, education, and culture. They also support the large number of British nationals who visit or live in Canada.

The main services provided by the Embassy include:

  • Visas
  • Births, deaths and marriages
  • Passports and emergency travel documents
  • Travel advice
  • Legalisation Service
  • Notarial services, etc.

One can renew or replace the passport at any time. It costs £72.50 by post or £81.25 through the Post Office’s Passport Check & Send service. Time left on an existing passport is added to the new one - up to a maximum of 9 months.

The new passport will be sent to the applicant either by courier or Royal Mail Recorded Delivery. The postman or courier will then do one of the following:

hand the passport to the person if he/she is at home
deliver the passport with the rest of ones post
leave a card or send a letter to tell the applicant where to collect the passport or how to arrange redelivery
