The Embassy develops and maintains relations between the UK and China. Embassy’s work covers a range of issues including bolstering global security, increasing mutual economic prosperity, establishing stronger people-to-people ties and supporting British nationals in China.

Consular services provided:

  • Emergency travel documents;
  • Help for British nationals;
  • Affirmations or affidavits of marital status;
  • Registration of birth or death;
  • Bereavement support;
  • Support in case of arrest;
  • Notarial and documentary services;
  • Travel advice.

The British embassy can’t help with passport enquiries.
The British embassy can’t help with visa enquiries.

Chinese Citizens need visas to come to the UK. 
Documents they need to provide before applying for a standard visa:

  • A current passport or other valid travel identification.
  • Evidence that they can support themselves during their trip, e.g. bank statements or payslips from the last 6 months.
  • They need a page in their passport that’s blank on both sides for their visa.
  • Their passport must be valid for the whole of their stay in the UK.
  • They also need to provide a certified translation of any documents that aren’t in English or Welsh.
  • Previous travel documents/passports, which show previous travel.
  • Confirmation of legal residence, if they are not nationals of the country in which they are applying or their right to reside there is not included in your passport.
  • Details of employment or studies where they have stated in their application that they are either employed or in full-time studies
  • If self employed: business registration documents confirming the business owner’s name and the date the business started trading.
  • Additional documents may be required.

Chinese citizens can apply for an ADS visa if they’re planning to travel to the UK as part of a tour group (minimum 5 people) for less than 30 days. Their tour must be organised by an ADS licensed Chinese tour operator. ADS visa cannot be extended.

Before the appointment date applicants need to give their agent:

  • Their current travel document or passport;
  • Their previous passports or travel documents;
  • Evidence of their current employment or studies.

Applicants must have a blank page in their passport on which to put the visa. 
The appointment includes taking their fingerprints and photo (biometric information).
The visa fee should be paid directly to the travel agent, who will pay for the whole group.
