The Embassy is working to implement policy on Europe and the single market, building trade for mutual growth. They are working closely with the Slovak government, as well as organisations and individuals from the media, academic and commercial worlds in support of these aims.

British nationals who need emergency assistance outside normal office hours should call +421 2 5998 20 00 where they will be given details on how to proceed and how to contact a duty officer if needed.

In addition to the services listed above we can also:

  • provide information about transferring funds
  • provide appropriate help if you have suffered rape or serious assault, are a victim of other crime, or are in hospital
  • help people with mental illness
  • do all we properly can to contact you within 24 hours of being told that you have been detained
  • offer support and help in a range of other cases, such as child abductions, death of relatives overseas, missing people and kidnapping
  • contact family or friends for you if you want
  • make special arrangements in cases of terrorism, civil disturbances or natural disasters

An emergency travel document allows you to leave the country you are in and travel to your destination via a maximum of 5 countries. The emergency travel document can also cover a return journey if you are resident in the country you are applying from.

You can apply for an emergency travel document (sometimes known as an ‘emergency passport’) if you are a British national outside the UK and your passport has been lost, stolen, damaged or has expired.

It is essential to check with the relevant authority (e.g. town hall/registry office/tax authorities/foreigners office, etc.) either in the UK, Slovakia, or a third country, where the consular certificate or service will be accepted. Only the relevant authority can confirm which service you will require. This information cannot be verified by the British Embassy.

British nationals need to have an affirmation of marital status signed at a local Notary Public in Slovakia. You need to bring the notarised affirmation to the local register office where the marriage shall take place. The British Embassy in Bratislava does not issue/certify certificates of no impediment (CNIs) or similar documents.
