The Embassy helps sustain and develop the important relationship between the UK and Thailand. The Embassy deals with a wide range of political, commercial, security and economic questions of interest to the UK and Thailand. The Embassy also deals with visa applications and provides consular services.

Consular services provided:

  • Emergency travel documents;
  • Help for British nationals;
  • Affirmations or affidavits of marital status;
  • Registration of birth or death;
  • Bereavement support;
  • Support in case of arrest;
  • Notarial and documentary services;
  • Travel advice.

The British embassy can’t help with passport enquiries. Her Majesty’s Passport Office should be contacted instead.

The British embassy can’t help with visa enquiries. From Monday 16 May customers will be able to use the UK’s new Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Chiang Mai.

The new visa application centre is located at:

Thai citizens need a visa to visit the UK. Documents applicants for a visitor visa must provide:

  • A current passport or other valid travel identification.
  • Evidence that they can support themselves during their trip, eg. bank statements or payslips from the last 6 months.
  • One passport-sized photograph.
  • Previous travel documents/passports.
  • Confirmation of legal residence, if they are not nationals of the country in which they are applying or their right to reside there is not included in their passport.
  • Details of employment or studies.
  • If self employed: business registration documents confirming the business owner’s name and the date the business started trading.

Applicants also need to provide a certified translation of any documents that aren’t in English or Welsh.

British Embassy security procedures require that all visitors are searched before entering the premises. Mobile phones will be collected at the Embassy gate but the British Embassy and local guards are not liable for any loss or damage. In addition, visitors will not be allowed to enter the British Embassy for their appointment carrying any of the items below:

  • Any other battery-operated or electronic devices such as computer tablets, digital diaries, pagers, cameras, audio/video cassettes, compact discs, MP3s, floppy disks, laptops, or portable music players.
  • Any oversize shoulder bags.
  • Any oversize handbags, large back-packs, briefcases, or suitcases.
