The US Embassy provides these consular services:

  • Issues, renews passports;
  • Registers births;
  • Provides notarial services;
  • Citizens entitled to US federal benefits, such as Social Security or Veterans benefits, may receive these benefits at the US Embassy;
  • Accepts income tax return forms from US citizens;
  • Contacts relatives in case of emergencies;
  • Assists crime victims in the immediate aftermath of a crime by providing crisis intervention, assistance with immediate needs, emergency shelter, trauma counseling, and information about the criminal justice system;
  • Assists in the matters of child abduction;
  • Assists US citizens by working with them to carry out their wishes with regard to burial or repatriation of the remains of the deceased, acts as a liaison between the family and local authorities;
  • Assists US citizens arrested abroad and their families;
  • Issues marriage certificates.

In case of lost/stolen passport, American citizens may come to the Consular Section to apply for a replacement (an appointment must be made online). Citizens applying for a passport replacement must have proof of identity and citizenship. Americans applying for a new passport to replace a lost or stolen passport must pay a $135 passport issuance fee. The fee must be paid in cash or by some types of credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover) in either USD or Lithuanian Litas to the Embassy at the time of application submission.

The Consular Section of the US Embassy in Vilnius provides visa services to Lithuanian and foreign nationals residing in Lithuania. Lithuanian citizens may travel to the US via the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP) when traveling to the US for a short leisure or business trip of 90 days or less. However, all individuals having a different purpose of travel than aforementioned, or who wish to stay in the US for more than 90 days, are required to obtain the appropriate US visa. Lithuanian citizens who have valid tourist/business visas may continue traveling with their visas. No additional/new requirements for travelers with visas apply. Lithuanian non-citizens are always required to obtain a US visa for any purpose of travel, unless they have citizenship of a participating VWP country and are otherwise eligible to travel on the VWP.

Appointment wait times for visas are:

  • Visitor Visas – 3 calendar days
  • Student/Exchange Visitor Visas – 2 calendar days
  • All Other Nonimmigrant Visas – 3 calendar days

Processing time of visa is 1 work day. It should be noted that work day refers only to days when the embassy is open and does not include weekends and holidays.

For security reasons, no laptops, mobile phones, video or photo cameras are allowed in the embassy's Consular Section. Visitors are reminded to leave their cellular phones with the security guards during the time of their admission to the Consular Section.

The US Embassy is closed on official Lithuanian and American holidays, as well as weekends.
