The US Embassy in Bratislava has the ability to issue emergency passports in certain limited circumstances. These passports have very restricted validity and are generally issued only to enable stranded citizens to return home. Certain requirements can be waived for victims of crime, etc. Once approved, the average processing time is 30 minutes. Although emergency passports can sometimes be issued outside of normal business hours, this is usually only authorized in genuine life-or-death situations.
