The Embassy takes care of the interests of the sending state (Ghana) in the receiving state (Italy) as well as its countries of concurrent accreditations. These countries are Croatia, Greece, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro.

The Embassy is also accredited to the Rome based United Nation's Agencies i.e. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

An applicant for a new passport must duly complete a passport application form and return it with four passport size photos and other relevant documents, e.g. birth certificate, expired / current passport, etc. all supporting documents must be submitted in original as well as photocopies of the original documents, the latter will be returned to the applicants.
An application for a new passport or renewal (extension) may be submitted six months to the date of expiry. An application for a new passport may also be submitted when the pages of current passport are all endorsed with visas/stamps.

An application for a new passport to replace a missing passport/lost passport shall be accompanied by a police report in addition to the other usual requirements for the issue of a passport.
An application for a new passport to replace a damaged passport shall be accompanied by a photocopy of the damaged passport in addition to the other usual requirements for the issue of a passport.

All visitors to Ghana must be in possession of a valid passport or legal travel documents.

All visitors entering Ghana must have valid entry visas or in the case of Commonwealth nationals, entry permits, issued by a Ghana diplomatic mission or consulate abroad or any other visa issuing authority mandated by the Ghana Government to act on its behalf. (ECOWAS nationals and those of other countries with which the Government of Ghana has specific bilateral agreements, are exempted).

Requirements for visa applicants:

  • Should be of Italian nationality or be officially resident in Italy.
  • Should have a valid passport with expiry date of at least six months from the date of application for visa.
  • Should submit – one set of Application Forms (In Quadruplicate).
  • Fully completed in CAPITAL LETTERS in English
  • Four recent passport size photographs.
  • An international certificate of vaccination for Yellow Fever
  • A return ticket or a flight confirmation print-out from an acknowledged Travel Agency.

Tourist visa requirements:

  • Visitors must possess a valid return or connecting flight ticket.
  • Names and addresses of two references are required, one of which can be the Hotel where you will be lodging.
  • Applications for extension of stay of visitors' permit must be made to the Director of the Ghana Immigration Service for consideration.
  • Persons who enter the country as visitors are not permitted to take up employment even if there happens to be a vacancy on the Immigrant Quota of a prospective employer. 
  • The Consular Officer reserves the right to demand a letter of invitation from the inviting party in Ghana.
