The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo is responsible for providing visa services to those seeking to enter the United States for a temporary period (Non-Immigrant Visa NIV) and for those wishing to take up indefinite or permanent residence in the United States (Immigrant-Visa IV).

Other consular services provided:

  • Report of birth, death;
  • Notarial services;
  • Voting.

Egyptian nationals need visas to visit the U.S. Supporting documents needed for a business/tourist visa:

  • Current proof of income, tax payments, property or business ownership, or assets.
  • Your travel itinerary and/or other explanation about your planned trip.
  • A letter from your employer detailing your position, salary, how long you have been employed, any authorized vacation, and the business purpose, if any, of your U.S. trip.
  • Criminal/court records pertaining to any arrest or conviction anywhere, even if you completed your sentence or were later pardoned.

All visitors to the U.S. must overcome the legal presumption that every B-1/B-2 applicant is an intending immigrant by showing:

  • That the purpose of their trip to the United States is for a temporary visit, such as business, pleasure, or medical treatment.
  • That they plan to remain in the United States for a specific, limited period of time.
  • Evidence of fund to cover their expenses while in the United States.
  • That they have a residence outside the United States, as well as other binding social or economic ties, that will ensure their return abroad at the end of their visit.

All visitors must be screened prior to entering the Embassy and are subject to inspection via a walk-through metal detector and a hand-held metal detector. In order to expedite your interview and required security checks, please keep in mind the following policies:

  • All Consular visitors seeking access to the Embassy must present valid government-issued photo identification.
  • Visitors seeking access to the American Citizen Services Unit must present two forms of valid government-issued photo identification.
  • Cell phones are prohibited beyond the security check entrance. There are no exceptions.
  • Laptops, recording equipment, computers, cameras, electronics, backpacks, large bags, luggage, large purses, oversized strollers and other cumbersome items are prohibited and cannot be deposited at the security entrance. There are no exceptions. Please leave these items at home.
  • Please follow all instructions given by the guards.
  • American citizens facing emergencies can be admitted to speak to a consular officer.
  • Due to space limitations, please do not arrive until your scheduled appointment time.
  • All minor children should be accompanied by one parent or legal guardian Hours of Operation
