The U.S. Mission in Japan is composed of the Embassy in Tokyo, five regional consulates, and five American Centers. The Mission offers a wide range of services for American citizens in Japan as well as visa services for international travelers.

Consular services provided:

  • Emergency assistance;
  • Passports;
  • Citizenship services;
  • Birth, marriage, death matters;
  • Notarial services;
  • Voting.

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables nationals of Japan to travel to the United States for tourism or business (visitor visa purposes) for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. VWP travelers are required to apply for authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), are screened at their port of entry into the United States, and are enrolled in the Department of Homeland Security’s US-VISIT program.

The Embassy will be closed to the public in observance of United States and Japanese holidays.
