The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur is responsible for providing visa services to those seeking to enter the United States for a temporary period and for those wishing to take up indefinite or permanent residence in the United States.

All visa interviews at the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur are handled on an appointment basis only.

Malaysian citizens need visas to visit the US. They should have the following documents available while they complete their DS-160 form:

  • Passport
  • Travel itinerary, if they have already made travel arrangements
  • Dates of their last five visit or trips to the United States, If they have previously travelled to the United States. They may also be asked for their international travel history for the past five years
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae – they may be required to provide information about their current and previous education and work history
  • Other information – some applicants, depending on the indented purpose of travel, will be asked to provide additional information when completing the DS-160

Starting May 3, 2016, visa applicants can pay over-the-counter at any AmBank branch. Effective May 31, 2016, Maybank will no longer accept over-the-counter payments for U.S. visa applications. Visa applicants can also continue to pay for their visa fees via electronic funds transfer or use the online payment platform JomPAY. 

All visitors to Embassy facilities are subject to search before entry.  No luggage, electronic or photographic equipment is permitted in our waiting room or on other Embassy premises.  Mobile phones will be held at the gate while visitors are on Embassy grounds. Please bring two forms of identification to facilitate entrance to the embassy. One ID will be kept with the security gate.

The Embassy is closed for Malaysian and U.S. holidays.
