Hills Learning is a language school located in Manhattan, New York City. We offer Japanese language classes for all ages and abilities. Our Japanese programs for kids combine fun and interactive language activities with quality language instruction. We also offer Japanese classes for high school students. We offer group classes, private lessons, and intensive courses for the Japanese language. Group classes are held at the Hills Learning center, but private classes can be held at the student’s home. We service all five boroughs of New York (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island) as well as parts of New Jersey and Connecticut.

Japanese High School Course:
This Japanese course designed for high school students is an eight class course that lasts for four weeks. It combines cultural activities with regular Japanese conversation and writing and reading skills. We include activities such as Origami, Calligraphy, and even have the students learn how to roll sushi. The maximum class size is 10 students.
Course Content: Students will learn the basics of Japanese, from greetings and basic conversational skills to being able to order food and shop. Our course is designed for the beginner who is eager to learn basic Japanese phrases and develop a strong familiarity with the Hiragana alphabet. Regular homework will also be given.
Course Curriculum: Follows Genki I and II, please note that handouts will be provided. It is not necessary to buy your own text.
Japanese through Manga - Japanese Summer Program for High School Students:
The goals of this summer Japanese course are to be able to greet and introduce yourself in Japanese, and perform basic functions in the language such as order at stores and restaurants. By the end of the class the Hiragana alphabet should also be mastered.
- Course Schedule: Classes are scheduled to take place in July and August. Classes are held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from 11am to 1pm. Students receive 6 hours per week of instruction, for a total of 24 hours.
- Course Curriculum: Follows Genki, please note that handouts will be provided. Manga scripts are also a part of this class. It is not necessary to buy the Genki textbook, but it is recommended for reviewing purposes.
Private Japanese Lessons:
Hills Learning offers private language lessons in Japanese for all skill levels, and all ages. Our main goal for Japanese private lessons is to develop conversational skills, but we also specialize in test prep, cultural etiquette, or just general language acquisition. And of course, we can meet student’s individual goals and requirements.
Our SWIRL curriculum focuses on developing at least three of the five language skills per class. With this basic framework, each teacher creates and develops her own teaching materials based on student needs and goals.
