The Department of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (DHML) is part of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine of the University of Luxembourg. DHML coordinates all teaching programmes in medicine, life sciences, nursing, radiography and midwifery. Research at the department integrates basic and translational, molecular and computational approaches with a focus on cancer biology, as well as clinical research projects on human health and disease.
Related research within the University encompasses clinical psychology and cognitive sciences at the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) and research on neurological disorders and dementia at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB).
The DHML cooperates with national health care centres and with leading international biomedical research institutions. The University of Luxembourg has set a strategic focus on medicine and health and is actively developing its training and research areas in these domains, creating exceptional opportunities in medical, biomedical and mental health initiatives.
Your roleAs part of the University's expansion of its medical and health sciences portfolio, the Department of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences seeks to appoint a Professor in Psychiatry. The successful candidate will establish and lead the medical specialisation programme (Diplômes d'Études Spécialisées - DES) in psychiatry, contribute to ongoing initiatives for mental health support and develop a strong line of research in a related field.
The position combines innovative postgraduate teaching in psychiatry with the development of an interdisciplinary research programme, supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure and excellent possibilities for collaborative work, particularly in neurosciences, clinical psychology and cognitive sciences.
The professorship represents a rare opportunity to shape the further development of medical education and research at the University of Luxembourg in close cooperation with colleagues across the University as well as with local and international hospitals.
The successful candidate will:
- Design, develop and implement a modern, state-of-the-art psychiatry curriculum
- Lead the medical specialisation programme in psychiatry and coordinate psychiatry‑related teaching activities within the University's study programmes in medicine and other health‑related sciences
- Collaborate with faculty colleagues and clinical partners to ensure an integrated and cohesive learning experience for students
- Implement innovative educational approaches and digital learning resources to provide students with comprehensive and engaging learning opportunities
- Establish research activities in psychiatry or related disciplines
- Integrate into ongoing research endeavours in mental health, e.g. Department of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences, and/or neurosciences, e.g. Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine
- Supervise Master students and PhD candidates
- Contribute to translational efforts in advancing mental health care, e.g. early detection, prevention, innovative treatments, integration of digital solutions
