Research Associate (f/m/d) in Applied Mathematics with expected 3/4 part-time employment – E 13 TV-L HU (third-party funding limited until 31.10.2029)

As part of the DFG Cluster of Excellence MATH+, the project "Towards a Model-Based Understanding of Sodium-Ion Batteries" (AA-Ener-5), an interdisciplinary research collaboration between working groups in Mathematics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Prof. Dr. Falk Hante), the Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (Dr. Manuel Landstorfer), and the Chemistry department at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Prof. Dr. Philipp Adelhelm), involves the following responsibilities:

Your responsibilities:
  • scientific service in research in the project "Towards a Model-Based Understanding of Sodium-Ion Batteries"
  • developing and analyzing mathematical models to describe and advance the understanding of sodium-ion batteries
  • developing and applying mathematical and numerical methods for analyzing complex electrochemical processes
  • close collaboration with the participating research groups and active involvement in the Cluster of Excellence MATH+ activities
  • presenting and publishing research findings at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals
  • tasks for personal scientific qualification (doctorate)
  • completed scientific university degree in Mathematics or a closely related field
  • strong background in Applied Mathematics, with particular expertise in at least one of the following areas: mathematical modelling, differential equations, numerical mathematics, or optimisation
  • interest in interdisciplinary research at the interface of mathematics, chemistry, and materials science
  • proficiency in German or English, both written and spoken (minimum C1 level)
  • independent, meticulous, and team-oriented working style
What would be desirable:
  • experience in modelling physical or electrochemical processes
  • familiarity with numerical simulation methods
  • enthusiasm for collaborating in an interdisciplinary research team
