The Role

We seek a highly motivated engineer for a leadership position in our Paint Manufacturing Engineering group. This group is responsible for developing and implementing the processes, equipment and tooling used to paint and seal our vehicles. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to building a world‑class manufacturing facility. Tesla is a demanding and fast‑paced environment where you will work on a critical subsystem of an incredibly exciting product.

This position reports to the Gigafactory Berlin, Paint Senior Manager.

The Manufacturing Engineering team employs a combination of team‑based and matrix‑based organizational structures. Leadership is responsible for either product lines or specific functions within the team. The ideal Manager candidate takes pride in his/her own work and that of those under his/her formal or informal guidance. Analytical ability, organizational skills and great attention to detail are of paramount importance. What You’ll Do
  • Build a new team of engineers and lead this cohesive team within Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Lead the development of processes and requirements to implement new products and/or in‑house manufacturing capacity and then lead the team to execute these projects.
  • Provide design‑for‑manufacturing feedback to our vehicle design engineers in order to realize superior design efficiency.
  • Deliver the handover to day‑to‑day production of capable and stable manufacturing processes, equipment and tooling.
What You’ll Bring
  • BS/MS Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of combined career experience as a leader of engineers, as a manager of engineering projects, and as a hands‑on industrial/manufacturing/process engineer working on manufacturing processes and/or equipment.
  • Must be fluent in English & German.
  • Designing and costing mechanical, process and electrical equipment for a Paint shop.
  • Designing and costing facilities and utilities infrastructure for a Paint shop.
  • Creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Utilizing overall project management tools including detailed schedules and budgeting.
  • Transitioning products from prototype to production (desired).
  • Utilizing statistical process control (SPC).
  • Designing and optimizing the software and hardware stack used in a Paint shop.
  • Experience in the following:
  • Detailed knowledge of high‑volume, high‑quality assembly processes.
  • Leading major modifications of existing production equipment.
  • Introducing new products and new processes into a production environment.
  • Root‑causing quality defects & developing solutions to resolve.
  • Designing for manufacturability.
  • Interfacing with manufacturing execution system software (MES).
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Previous experience in a role leading multiple groups of professionals.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solidly organized, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience in 3D parametric CAD (e.g. Solid Works, Catia) and 2D layout software (e.g. AutoCAD).
  • Mastery of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio.
