Data Scientist; Medical Computer Vision

Description

We are looking for a talented and ambitious Data Scientist (f/m/d) who’s excited to join us in developing real-world medical AI for dermatology - to support doctors and patients in the management of inflammatory skin conditions. You’ll join a small, fast-moving AI team, working closely with product management, engineers, data annotators and medical experts.

• Design, train, and evaluate computer vision models for medical image analysis, blending vision and structured data when relevant (PyTorch).
• Maintain organized datasets and experiment tracking (DVC, Fifty One, MLflow).
• Implement explainability and uncertainty estimation techniques.
• Document model development steps, data sources, and evaluation procedures in line with medical product quality and regulatory standards.
• Contribute to standardization and automation of model training and validation processes.
• Perform data preprocessing, augmentation, and quality control in collaboration with data annotators and medical advisors.
• Collaborate with front-/back-end engineers to integrate AI models into product workflows.
• Work cross-functionally within the AI, product and business teams and present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Biomedical Engineering, Statistics, or related field.
• 2+ years of professional hands-on experience in machine learning / computer vision model development.
• Proficiency with Python and frameworks such as PyTorch (Lightning) and OpenCV.
• Strong data handling skills (Num Py, Pandas, etc.).
• Ideally, experience with Docker, FastAPI.
• Solid understanding of deep learning fundamentals, metrics, and evaluation methods.
• Interest in expanding into multi-modal AI or LLM-based applications.
• Analytical mindset and the ability to work in a structured and focused manner.
• Excellent communication skills and curiosity about medical applications.
• You speak German or English fluently.
