Lead Product Engineer; fmd

Your Mission

As Lead Product Engineer at hallo theo you design build and ship scalable product solutions that power our platform. You own critical user journeys end-to-end from early discovery with Product and Design through technical design and implementation all the way to rollout quality and iteration based on data and customer feedback. You act as a technical sparring partner and help raise the engineering bar across the product team.

• Own the end-to-end delivery of complex product features and services from discovery and scoping to rollout monitoring and iteration.
• Design and implement scalable reliable and secure solutions ensuring high standards in code quality testing and observability.
• Lead technical decision-making within the product team (architecture, tooling, engineering practices) in close alignment with the platform and data teams.
• Mentor and enable other engineers through code reviews, pair programming and coaching; actively contribute to shared standards and best practices.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers and Data to translate commercial and user needs into impactful measurable product outcomes.

• 5 years of experience as a Senior / Lead Product Engineer or similar role building and operating user-facing products on a modern web / backend stack.
• Proven track record of owning a product area or core journey end-to-end, including discovery, technical solution design, implementation and ongoing optimisation.
• Strong skills in system and API design, distributed systems and scalable architectures; comfortable integrating with and extending existing platform services.
• Demonstrated ability to improve engineering practices for a team or chapter (testing strategy, CI/CD, monitoring, security, documentation).
• High degree of product thinking: you work comfortably with hypotheses, metrics, experimentation and stakeholder trade-offs.
• Language:
  German at C1 level and strong English for day‑to‑day collaboration and stakeholder communication.

• Experience with platform or multi‑tenant products (e.g. portals, B2B tools, data‑heavy products).
• Background in Forward Deployed / consulting‑style engineering working closely with internal or external customers on their specific problems.
• Experience acting as a practice lead / chapter lead / tech lead defining standards, supporting hiring and facilitating knowledge sharing.
• Previous exposure to high‑growth or re‑organising environments, helping shape team structures and interfaces between product, platform and data.

In a tight cross‑functional setup with Product, Design, Data and Platform Engineering, you help shape how we build products from architecture and tooling to engineering practices and ways of working across the chapter.
