• Provides oversight during initial and extended attack fires, directs fireline activities and tactics of dispersed firefighters, resources, equipment, and aircraft.
• Assigns missions to ground and aviation wildland fire suppression resources.
• Coordinates with the Dispatch Office regarding current fire behavior and fire conditions, release of resources, and other logistical considerations.
• Participates in incident objectives, strategies, and tactics to provide for safe operations and cost-effective incident management.
• Develops performance standards and evaluates work performance of subordinates.

• Must be a U.S. citizen or national.
• Suitability for federal employment as determined by background investigation.
• Direct deposit required.
• Must submit to a drug test and receive a negative result prior to appointment. Random drug testing may occur.
• Must pass a pre‑employment medical examination; may be subject to post‑employment medical examinations.
• Must pass a work capacity test for arduous positions.
• Driver:
  Must operate a government or private motor vehicle as part of official duties and hold a valid state driver’s license.
• Uniform:
  Official U.S. Wildland Fire Service uniform required.
• Probationary period:
  One-year supervisory/managerial probationary period required.
• Selective Service registration required for applicable individuals.
• Age:

• Work schedule:
