Get to Know our Team

In Agoda’s Back‑End Engineering department, we build scalable, fault‑tolerant systems and APIs that host our core business logic. Our systems cover inventory and pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, payments, and more. We employ state‑of‑the‑art CI/CD and testing techniques to ensure everything works without downtime. Our systems are self‑healing, responding gracefully to extreme loads or unexpected input.

We use modern languages like Kotlin and Scala, and data technologies such as Kafka, Spark, MLflow, Kubeflow, Vast Storage, and Star Rocks.

In this Role, you'll get to

• Architect and develop highly scalable, mission‑critical back‑end systems
• Own a significant portion of Agoda’s system from vision to bytecode level
• Drive impactful collaboration and cross‑team projects on large initiatives
• Provide thoughtful feedback, nurture an inclusive engineering environment, and champion engineering fundamentals
• Identify and implement optimization opportunities across the technology stack, focusing on cost, efficiency, velocity, and developer happiness
• Exhibit technical leadership throughout the broader organization, communicating complex technical trade‑offs to non‑tech stakeholders such as business owners and C‑suite executives

What you’ll Need to Succeed

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering roles
• Hands‑on experience owning production services with significant impact on design, development, deployment, monitoring, and evolution
• Curiosity and a passion for staying ahead of technological improvements and open‑source advancements
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Kotlin, Scala, Java, and C#
• Capacity to perform deep research and make decisions on complex projects, and to work independently as well as part of a team
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical details to stakeholders at all levels
• Strategic understanding of challenges and trade‑offs across the engineering spectrum, from front‑end/mobile to data analytics
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
