Role SummaryAs the Staff Factory Software Integration Engineer, you will own the technical direction and end‑to‑end lifecycle of factory software integration and release for a key domain or group of manufacturing sites. You will define patterns, standards, and best practices across teams, leading complex cross‑functional initiatives that ensure high‑quality, reliable deployment of vehicle software into manufacturing. You will act as a senior technical mentor and culture carrier, aligning integration strategy with product and manufacturing objectives while partnering closely with VWG brand and plant stakeholders.
Responsibilities- Own the technical direction and roadmap for factory software integration and release within a defined domain (e.g., platform, product family, or group of plants), defining design patterns, code quality standards, and best practices across teams.
- Lead and govern the end‑to‑end execution of the vehicle software release lifecycle into manufacturing, from development completion through integration testing, deployment to plants, and post‑release monitoring.
- Design, evolve, and optimize the software build, CI/CD, and deployment pipelines used to deliver vehicle software and configurations to factory environments, ensuring consistent, reproducible, and efficient builds.
- Align factory software integration strategy with product, manufacturing, and business goals; define and track key metrics for release quality, reliability, and throughput.
- Tackle complex, cross‑functional integration and commissioning challenges spanning development, test, factory IT, manufacturing engineering, and external partners, driving structured problem‑solving and clear documentation of trade‑offs and decisions.
- Act as the principal technical point of contact for VWG brand and plant stakeholders on factory software integration topics, communicating status, risks, and mitigation plans and arbitrating trade‑offs when necessary.
- Mentor and coach other engineers, amplifying a culture of technical excellence, thoughtful communication, and psychological safety across the integration and release teams.
- Own the SDLC and technical health of factory integration services and tooling, driving improvements in reliability, performance, and observability across teams.
- Drive continuous improvement of release and integration processes (e.g., automation, validation strategies, rollout/rollback mechanisms) to increase release speed while safeguarding production.
- Partner with security, networking, and infrastructure teams to ensure that factory software integration solutions meet enterprise security, compliance, and scalability requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science/Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience working on complex, cross‑functional, distributed software systems.
- Demonstrated familiarity and hands‑on experience with the entire software development and release lifecycle.
- Deep proficiency with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Proven experience in designing and managing software build systems.
- Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively arbitrate discussions and drive issue resolution.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills and/or experience in a Technical Program Management role.
- Experience working in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and abroad to the manufacturing facilities around 40% of the working time.
