Engineering Manager - ZEOS Portal (all genders)
The ZEOS B2B Portal is the face of our platform, serving as the central gateway for partners to manage their business within the Zalando ecosystem. As the Engineering Manager for the Portal and Portal Application team, you will lead the engineers responsible for building a seamless, high-performance, and intuitive user interface that unifies complex B2B services.
You will manage a cross-functional team of up to 10 engineers, fostering an environment where frontend excellence meets robust backend integration. Your mission is to ensure that the ZEOS Portal remains a best-in-class "Single Point of Entry" for our partners. You will collaborate closely with UX designers, Product Managers, and Principal Engineers to deliver a cohesive experience, ensuring that modularity (Micro Frontends), security, and performance are at the heart of every deployment.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)Lead Full-Stack Strategy: Help shape a scalable and modular portal architecture across both frontend and backend layers. You'll ensure a seamless and intuitive experience for our partners, creating harmony across various applications, services, and internal tools.
Empower and Grow Talent: Hire and develop a diverse team of 10 engineers (5 frontend, 5 backend). You will focus on their professional growth, helping them master the balance between rapid feature delivery and high-quality engineering standards across the stack.
Bridge Design and Engineering:Work in close partnership with Product and UX Design leads to translation of user needs into technical roadmaps, leveraging modern web trends and Design Systems (DS) to increase development velocity.
Own the Portal Infrastructure: Take responsibility for the portal's backend infrastructure and services - overseeing deployments, scalability, uptime, and data flows that power the partner experience, in addition to frontend performance and CI/CD.
Champion Operational Health: Take full ownership of the portal's stability, frontend and backend. You will oversee CI/CD pipelines, monitor performance metrics across the stack, and ensure robust security (Okta/OpenID) and SEO-friendly architectures.
Navigate Architectural Choices: Provide the technical perspective needed to guide decisions around Micro Frontends (MFE), backend service design, SPA performance, and API architecture, ensuring the team builds extensible solutions without over-engineering.
Foster Smooth Delivery:Act as a catalyst for Agile best practices, removing blockers for your team and ensuring that cross-functional stakeholders are aligned on the portal's roadmap and release cycles.
